Course Overview
Data Protection is a legal requirement for every organisation including services supporting vulnerable children and young people where there are specific requirements relating to the sector which need to be met. Services need to demonstrate that measures have been taken to ensure data is protected, collected, stored, used and shared in a safe and legal way.
This training course identifies the meaning of data protection and how this specifically relates to children and young people’s services and continues to confirm the meaning of sensitive data, personal sensitive data, data users and processors amongst other terms.
This training course confirms legislative updates which came into effect in 2018 through the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and states how GDPR specifically relates to support services. This course also confirms the eight principles of the Data Protection Act (2018).
This training course considers safeguards which can be made in reducing the risk of a data breach by considering safe ways of storing, using and sharing data.
This course also confirms the action which should be taken and processes which should be followed in the suspected or actual occurrence of a data breach.This is a Level 3 accredited course.

- 2.2Confirm key principles of data protection and sharing in relation to your role and working in children and young people’s services
- 3.1Identify the eight key best practice principles of the Data Protection Act (2018)
- 3.2Describe the purpose of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) (2018)
- 3.3Explain how GDPR (2018) regulations specifically relate to children and young people’s services
- 3.4Define how Article 12 (Recital 58) of GDPR specifically relates to how data is accessible to vulnerable children and young people
- 4.1Explain and evaluate procedures which must be following in relation to the following; The collection of data; The use of data and; The storage of data
- 5.1Explain why the appropriate sharing of data can be equally as important as the need to protect confidentiality
- 5.2Describe situations where data may need to be shared for the safeguarding of vulnerable young people and/or support staff
- 6.1Explain legal requirements and actions to take in ensuring suspected or actual breaches are correctly reported
- 6.2Define specific service procedures which are in place to ensure suspected or actual data breaches are reported quickly and professionally
