This child sexual exploitation training course equips professionals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to identify, prevent, and respond to child sexual exploitation (CSE) in both traditional and emerging digital contexts.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, chatbots, and synthetic media, the risks to children and young people are evolving rapidly.

Participants will explore the meaning of CSE, associated terminology, vulnerabilities, and the impact of abuse, while gaining practical strategies to protect children in line with UK legislation and safeguarding frameworks.

1Understand what child sexual exploitation is including AI-enabled child sexual exploitation
  • 1.1Describe the meaning of child sexual exploitation
  • 1.2Define the meaning of the terms: abuse, exploitation and grooming, trafficking, child sexual abuser, professional perpetrator, AI-enabled child sexual exploitation or AI-generated child sexual abuse and AI-enabled child sexual abuse material (AI-CSAM)
  • 1.3Identify children and young people who may have additional vulnerabilities to the risk of child sexual exploitation and abuse
  • 1.4Explain how emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and character.ai can increase risk for children and young people
  • 1.5Identify with key principles relating to relevant legislation including The Sexual Offences Act (2003) and The Online Safety Act (2023)
  • 1.6List the key regulations relating to child sexual exploitation of the Children’s Homes Regulations (2015)
2Understand influences and indicators of CSE concern including AI-enabled child sexual exploitation concerns
  • 2.1Describe influences which cause increased vulnerability
  • 2.2Analyse influences from an artificial intelligence perspective including the use of chatbots

  • 3.3Compare and explain the characteristics associated with the following Models of Child Sexual Exploitation: boyfriend model, gang model, peer model, online model, familial model, opportunistic model, trafficking model and AI Model
4Understand preventative ways of working, raising concerns, safeguarding and supporting vulnerable children
  • 4.1Describe different ways of preventative working to reduce the risk of child sexual exploitation
  • 4.2Explain ways of supporting children who have been the victim of child sexual exploitation
  • 4.3Confirm the process for reporting concerns of child sexual abuse
  • 4.4Confirm the CEOP procedure for reporting online concerns including artificial intelligence and chatbots
  • 4.5Describe the importance of supporting staff who work with vulnerable children and young people through debriefing

Availability of this training course

This Child Sexual Exploitation training course is available as in-house training at a venue of your own choice throughout the UK. Alternatively, also available remotely via a tutor led course over Zoom or MS Teams.

Audience for this course

This CSE training course is designed to meet the learning needs of people who work with children and young people who have been victims of exploitation and/or grooming or are vulnerable to risks of being exploited and groomed, and need to know more about the meaning, actions and indicators, influences, legislation and support systems.

QCF Units

This Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) training course is designed to meet the standards outlined in the new Children's Homes (England) Regulations which were introduced on 1st April 2015 and can contribute to outcomes of QCF units including the National Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce and the National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults).
